We leave soon for our mission trip to Haiti

I can’t believe we are going to Haiti really soon! We have our final team meeting tonight. I will have more updates and details about the trip after tonight. We are going through our church (Healing Place Church) to Haiti. The trip is for 5 days during May. We would appreciate your prayers and if you would like to be a part of this trip by your by giving please click the donate button below. The trip totals around $4000 for the both of us. That is including all of the shots we needed to be safe to travel to Haiti. We know that God is faithful and He always provides when He calls…so we are not focusing on the money but instead focusing on the lives we will be able to touch and change during our time in Haiti.

There is a HAITI page on our site that we will update after the trip with pictures and our stories!

A little bit of information about Haiti:

Haiti covers 10,714 square miles (24,750 square kilometers). It is located in the subtropics on the western third of Hispaniola, the second largest island in the Caribbean, which it shares with the Spanish-speaking Dominican Republic. The neighboring islands include Cuba, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico. Three-quarters of the terrain is mountainous; the highest peak is the Morne de Selle. The climate is mild, varying with altitude.

The mountains are calcareous rather than volcanic and give way to widely varying microclimatic and soil conditions. A tectonic fault line runs through the country, causing occasional and sometimes devastating earthquakes. The island is also located within the Caribbean hurricane belt. For most of the nation’s history the official language has been French. However, the language spoken by the vast majority of the people is kreyol, whose pronunciation and vocabulary are derived largely from French but whose syntax is similar to that of other creoles. With the adaption of a new constitution in 1987, kreyol was given official status as the primary official language. French was relegated to the status of a secondary official language but continues to prevail among the elite and in government, functioning as a marker of social class and a barrier to the less educated and the poor. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and one of the poorest in the world. It is a nation of small farmers, commonly referred to as peasants, who work small private landholdings and depend primarily on their own labor and that of family members. There are no contemporary plantations and few concentrations of land. Although only 30 percent of the land is considered suitable for agriculture, more than 40 percent is worked. Erosion is severe. Real income for the average family has not increased in over twenty years and has declined precipitously in rural areas. In most rural areas, the average family of six earns less than $500 per year.

New Entertainment Center Mock Up…what do you think?

So this piece is listed on Craigslist for only $25…my kinda deal!

This is what our tv set up looks like right now… it is the coffee table dwight had before we got married. We just used it as a tv stand!

This is my poorly done mock up! I did it really fast to see what it would look like before I showed Dwight the listing on Craigslist. I think it would help clean up our TV stuff some…. don’t you?

The plan as of now is to go pick it up this week… and measure it when we get there juuuust to make sure! :D I will post pics when we get it here!

Getting things done around the house…

We have now been married a little over 4 months! :D The house is starting to look like 2 people live here TOGETHER instead of all of our stuff just thrown here… :) It has been a challenge to blend our things and to figure out what we need to keep…get rid of… and where to put what! :D But it has been good and we are enjoying married life tremendously. :)

Recently my sister, Kelly, started a group on facebook that helped me get a kick start to organizing things! A declutter group… we could all use a kick in the behind in that area right? Below are some of my before and after pics that I shared with the group… :D

Office Floor:

My Desk:

There is still work to do and changes we want to make around the house… but it is coming along… and from what I hear from people who have been married a long time…. you are never really done! HA! :D

40 Year Lee High School Reunion Gig

About 2 weeks ago I was at my moms 40th high school reunion events…why you may ask? I was hired to take photos at the events! It was a blast to see some of my moms friends from high school and meet TWO of her old boyfriends…my dad was happy to tell them “you lost” and sweep her out to the dance floor! ha! I am also a graduate of Lee High so I understand the school pride these folks have. After the event I got busy setting up the online store and had some issues with a few websites not co-operating with me! ha. After many hours searching I finally found www.BackPrint.com/GeauxRight and got my GeauxRight page! :D That is where all the reunion photos can be seen and purchased. I have it linked thru mywww.GeauxRight.com business site in hopes of getting website or photography business out of this event. Some pics from the reunion…
